Queer Makers Market

Started in 2022, the Queer Makers Market is organized by the founders of the Queer Tallahassee Artists Collective to provide economic opportunity to local artists and makers and a community gathering space for the larger Tallahassee queer community. Each market features 12-20+ individual artists and makers, all members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Our primary motivator is to provide LGBTQIA+ folks with a joyful, affirming, and empowering space while living in Florida's capitol city. Our hope is that everyone who comes to the market is able to relax into the joy of queer and trans community while discovering amazing local artists and makers.

Market Applications

We're so excited to invite you to share your art at the Queer Makers Market! Please take a few minutes to read through the market FAQ prior to applying.

How can I get involved in the Queer Makers Market?

There are several ways to get involved with the Queer Makers Market

  • Come hang out and shop from local LGBTQIA+ makers and artists at each market! You can find the full list of our upcoming markets on our Event Calendar.

  • Volunteer to help at the Info Booth during the market. You can find more information on volunteering by signing up as a member

  • Apply to vend as an artist or maker! Use the "apply" buttons above to access each market application. See the below F.A.Q. for more information.

  • Donate to our market supply fund that provides tents, tables, water, etc. to shoppers and vendors at each market. Check out our Support Our Mission page for more information on becoming a QTAC Patron.

What kinds of artists and makers does the Queer Makers Market feature?

The Queer Makers Market features local LGBTQIA+ makers and artists. Our markets are set up to welcome artists with a wide range of selling experience!  Whether you're new to selling your wares or a returning experienced artist/maker we are thrilled to have you. Some folks sell for fun or to support a hobby and others have registered businesses - all are welcome! Experience has taught us that the folks who shop at the Queer Makers Market enjoy:

  • Original art (paintings, sculpture, block prints, fiber art, screen prints, etc.)

  • Handmade goods (pottery, fiber works, candles, soaps, hand bound sketchbooks, etc.)

  • Digital art (as physical prints, pins, stickers, book marks, keychains, etc.)

  • Accessories, small-batch fashion, & sustainable works (clothing, patches, handcrafted jewelry, etc.)

We do not accept the following types of vendors for the Queer Makers Market. Folks whose primary business / goods are:

  • reseller or thrift

  • taxidermy

  • franchises

  • service-based

  • spiritual/religious based services

Community organizations / non-profits are welcome on a case-by-case basis, please reach out to director@queertallahassee.com in advance of filling out an application.

Is there a booth or application fee?

Nope! The Queer Makers Market will always be fee-free, QTAC's founders are deeply committed to a market model that provides no-cost economic opportunity to LGBTQIA+ artists and makers. We recognize that markets are a high variable selling environment and we want artists to be able to participate without the barrier of a fee.

When do applications open and where can I find them?

Applications generally open 4-6 weeks prior to a market. They are sent out directly to members and posted at the top of this page. An example application is available here: https://forms.gle/YixP1BB5LKdmcw198

What types of spaces are available and what do I need to bring?

The default space for artists applying is a 10x10 booth spot. Artists need to provide their own set up including a 10x10 tent.

  • Want to share a spot with a friend? Awesome! Each individual artist needs to fill out their own application, we have a space where you can indicate that you'd like to share a spot with a friend. Exception to the individual applications is if you're a collaborative / joint art venture.

  • Don't have a tent or table? QTAC has a limited number of 10x10 tents and 4-ft tables that we loan out to artists. Provided 10x10 tents are shared between two artists. There's a spot in the application for you to indicate you'll need a tent or table.

I've never done a market application before, what are you looking for?

The goal of an application is for us to get to know you as an artist/maker. We want to know who you are and what you'll be bringing with you to share with the community. Here's what makes an application stand out:

  • Clear description of your work. We're looking for 2-3 sentences that tell us what you make and how you make it. This can be as formal or informal as you like, just make sure it's focused on your art!

  • Quality photos of your work. We want to be able to see your art! Quality photos are well-lit, focused, and show your art at its best. Booth photos are welcome, but not required.

Please note that for each market we receive more applications than we can accept! If you are declined it may be that we do not have space, the venues we use vary in the amount of space available. Artists are always welcome to apply again to a future market.

Is there a waitlist / are late applications accepted?

We do not currently utilize a waitlist system or accept applications outside of the open window. If that ever changes we'll let you know here!

What do you mean by LGBTQIA+? What If I'm an ally that wants to vend

While identity language in the queer community is always evolving, the definitions provided in this link are in harmony with how QTAC's founders understand the term: https://www.them.us/story/what-does-lgbtq-mean-lgbtqia-stands-for-queer-history

We do not require folks to disclose their orientation/gender identity in the membership form, market applications, or any other other event registration. We do ask that only folks who self-identify as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community apply to vend at markets. Allies are invited to come shop and discover local LGBTQIA+ makers and artists! â€‹
